There are several cities named Lancaster within the USA but this one is pronounced "Lanc-i-ster" Did you know that Lancaster was once the capital of the U.S.? Have you heard of the Conestoga rifle or the Conestoga Wagon? Can you name any famous local citizens who were instrumental in forging the development of our country? Come to Lancaster and we'll tell you. Tour Guides and Receptionist are now located within the Visitors Center located adjacent to Penn Square at 5 West King Street. They are easy to recognize in their 18th or 19th Century garb representing such dignitaries as George Ross, Gen. Edward Hand, Adam Reigart, Robert Coleman, James Buchanan, and Thaddeus Stevens. Come early in the day and shop at Central Market before the tour. Walking tours are available April through October on the following days and times:
